Continuing our occasional EXCHANGE series in which we create an opportunity for artists to get together and exchange ideas, knowledge and information based on the wide experience that exists within our arts community, our March event focuses on artists’ residencies.

Following on from our Blue Monkey Shared Space Residency last year, we thought it would be useful to invite our Shared Space artists to talk about their residency experience, how they were able to develop their work, how they worked alongside each other and the longer term effects of the residency on their practices. We’ll also open up a wider conversation about the pros, cons, pleasures and uncertainties of working as artist in residence.

We hope you can join us for an evening of informal chat and general discussion about residencies, the roles they can play for artists and how do they work – from identifying residencies that might be good for you, writing the initial proposal, how things might develop, what happens if what you propose doesn’t actually happen, and what if the work doesn’t flow?

We’ll also be joined by Blue Monkey Network’s Hannah Rogers who arranged her own two week residency in a shed in a field after being inspired by our residency at Eastbourne College. Hannah will tell us how that experience worked for her.
