‘Fair Trade: Material Matters’ was initiated in 2007 by artist Jane Frost and shows contemporary self-portraits, drawn by other artists, collected and stitched in woad dyed yarn onto recycled blankets. See www.fairtradematerialmatters.org for the online work and community of artists. Fair Trade: Material Matters is a fair trade exchange within the art community, a deliberate comment on financial value placed on work, often not to benefit artists. Hand stitched, recycled blankets are the material matter creating the physical work, exploring the process of making in the context of sustainable actions and relationships. Babylon Gallery will exhibit Fair Trade: Material Matters and show the process of work. The gallery will be used as a studio for talks, workshops and artist networking sessions. Jane will be available to discuss the work with groups at prearranged times and be taking commissions for stitched portraits from individuals and organisations. A programme of events and online booking form is available see. www.fairtradematerialmatters.org or go to http://fairtradematerialmatters.org/tinc?key=33Sfy… There will be opportuntiy to include your self portrait at various times during the exhbition. Jane will be working in the gallery Tuesday – Thursday 10.m. – 4p.m.
