Over the past six months, Tim Skinner has been collaborating with scientists Ron Fryer and Margaret Sommerville at Writtle College. Fallen explores visual and audio dimensions of plant senescence (aging resulting in leaf fall). It took three years of planning and the artist says that his contact with scientists has changed his approach to work, which is now moving from videos to more collaborative-based informative pieces. The exhibition will be split across the campus, the majority of the work will be centred in the hub of the College main building, and another will be featured within the science laboratories. The residency has been funded by Arts Council England with in-kind support from CADE (Centre for the Arts and Design in the Environment) and firstsite. Jill Raggert (CADE) – ” I consider Tim has enriched our learning environment and experience for both students and staff. His conceptual approach has taken our notions of autumn in new directions beyond the pure aesthetics of autumn colours and planting plans to consider links between the scientific, visual and audio – these ideas have fuelled the imagination of all those involved”
