The first in a series of talks, which explore issues of urban regeneration and public art commissioning, is now available to download as a free podcast from iTunes, or to watch online at www.incertainplaces.org? Since 2004, Preston's public art initiative, In Certain Places has hosted 20 talks by artists, architects, local historians, urban theorists and cultural sociologists, which have sparked discussion about the future of the city and the role of art within regeneration schemes. Beginning in March 2009, In Certain Places will release one talk every month from the Talks and Debates archive, which includes speakers such as landscape architect Charles Jencks, cultural sociologist Monica Degen, urban theorist Iain Borden and artist John Newling. The first podcast, entitled Local Colour, is a performative lecture by artist Becky Shaw, which took place in November 2008 and draws together the starting points, experiences and conclusions of a public art project that she developed for In Certain Places.
