A big promotion of the Languedoc Roussillon region in the South of France was held at St Pancras International station in early September. Seven painters from Hertfordshire didn’t need this encouragement to pack their paints and brushes for a painting holiday in this magical region last May. IMPRESSIONS OF LANGUEDOC, an exhibition of the resulting paintings, drawings and ceramics inspired by the wonders of Languedoc, will be exhibited at Courtyard Arts from Tuesday 28th September until Sunday 11th October. This follows the successful Impressions of Languedoc Exhibition which attracted record crowds in September 2008.The painters* travelled to the village of Paziols in legendary Cathar country. They painted dramatic Cathar castles, vineyards and sat with their easels in the picturesque harbour town of Collioure, soaking up the same romantic atmosphere that had inspired Henri Matisse and André Derain to invent Fauvism in 1905.Anyone who loves France and, in particular, the beautiful region of Languedoc will enjoy this exhibition. There will be a Private View on Friday 2nd October from 7pm Courtyard Arts.* Bryan Andrews, Anne Chick, Tony Freeland, Linda Keeley, Margaret Lachlan, Gillian Mackenna, Ruth Rankin.
