An exhibition of paintings by Jane PhillipsJane Phillips studied BA Hons Fine Art (Painting) during 1977 – 1979 at Central School of Art & Design, London. The paintings are vivacious, with the energy of colour driving the paintings to be a feast for the eyes. In addition to large scale works the exhibition will feature evidence of obsessive drawing studies that essentially dominated the work, including; drawing studies of the coast and trees, fanatical colour studies, geometric patterns and mark making.Sadly, Jane Phillips passed away 6th February 2011 after a long illness. Jane Phillips dedicated her life and career to Mission Gallery, entering the realm of exhibition organization in 1980 and developing to be one of the most dynamic people working in the visual arts and crafts in Wales. It is with thanks to Jane Phillips that Mission Gallery developed the ethos for supporting young and/or emerging artists; taking risks and giving opportunities and challenges. Discovering the origin of Jane’s working process reflects her artistic ethos both as artist and director. Her support and encouragement for young artists grew from her own ambition and passion. This exhibition gives an insight into the passion behind the artist who developed Mission Gallery in to the successful contemporary visual art and craft space it is today.
