Presentations of recent research by Nicola Curtis, Jason Hirons, and Kate Isherwood; followed by a short talk by Kayla Parker and a screening of her new film Teign Spirit, commissioned by Animate Projects for CABE’s Sea Change initiative, and made in collaboration with film-maker Stuart Moore. Teign Spirit is an animated ‘séance’, where modern day Teignmouth, a seaside resort on the coast of south Devon, is haunted by joyous summers past, conjured up though archive footage. Teign Spirit mixes the viewpoints and sea views of black and white holiday movies from just before World War II with those of the present day resort, captured in digital photography. Sea Change is an initiative of CABE, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment: the British government’s advisor on architecture, urban design and public space.
