‘Making up for lost time’

A major exhibition of paintings by contemporary artist Ian Rayer-Smith

Ian first picked up a paintbrush at the age of 38. Several years on from that moment, and after graduating with an art degree, he now works full-time as an artist with studios in Manchester and rural North Shropshire. He creates both small and large-scale paintings that are rich and expressive, imbued with a sense of history whilst evidently being innovative and contemporary.

Ian paints every day, in a constant search for fresh ways of applying paint to canvas, board and paper. His work yields an urgent intensity of energy within each painting. This energy can have explosive results, but always remains focused. Spending time with each piece of work, the viewer is rewarded with the revelation of new meanings.

Ian has exhibited throughout the UK, and this will be his first solo show at the Stockport Art Gallery.

The exhibition opens on 18th August 2015 and continues until 18th September.

The private view is on Saturday 22nd August 2015, from 2pm – 4.30pm.
