This exhibition is based on my visit to Grytviken whaling station while working with the British Antarctic Survey in the South Atlantic. It has long since changed. Then it was a wreck of metal structures, wooden timber buildings, and industrial equipment scattered around. Large whale-oil tanks dominated the area, of a colour that I have tried to recreate. My sense of the place was of abandonment, disarray, and it has left an everlasting impression on me. Playing with these memories, I suppose I have abstracted them into simple, sensory moments.
