Nothing Gold Can Stay is an exhibition of new works by artists represented by Mermaid and Monster. Based in Cardiff, Mermaid & Monster represent emerging and established artists, through curatorial projects, publications, events and art fairs. Angelika Studios visited Mermaid & Monster early in 2011 and extended an invitation for a return visit and exhibition. The artists in Nothing Gold Can Stay are predominantly interested in Painting. Wally French and Neal Jones combine a DIY aesthetic with an informed formalism. Maria Sola’s almost decaying images feature abandoned rooms and lonesome animals; Tom Goddard’s simplifies nature and time to cartoon animations; Paul Emmanuel’s painted sculptures both repel and attract; Gordon Dalton’s paintings are failed attempts to keep adolescence stuffed in a bedroom cupboard. Strange figures emerge from the painting process in the work of Nicholas Deitrich Williams and Neil McNally. Exhibition talk by Gordon Dalton from Mermaid and Monster is on 8th October at 2.30pm at Angelika Studios. Spaces are limited please book using the contact us form at www.angelikastudios.co.uk
