In our December event, Blue Monkey Network takes advantage of our special relationship with Towner for an exclusive out of hours viewing of Towner’s current exhibition, The Future is Ours: Classroom Portraits 2004 – 2015 by British photographer, Julian Germain.

The Future is Ours explores the universal themes of school and childhood through film and photography, showing portraits of school children from 19 countries around the world. This major exhibition displays 200 objects including framed photographs, films, prints, Polaroids, and customised books and includes portraits of four Eastbourne schools commissioned by Towner for the exhibition.

Two Blue Monkey Network members, Clive Whitburn and Elizabeth Doak, will select pieces from the exhibition which hold a particular interest or resonance for them, and will talk to us about the work and issues arising from it from their own very unique perspectives.

Clive Whitburn is a musician and composer with 36 years experience in education, including two primary headships (London and Eastbourne) and 12 years as an education adviser and inspector. He has visited schools throughout England. In 2005 he visited St Andrew’s School in Kanji, a small village near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India with a group of British teachers. On his return, with them, he produced an interactive CD “Learning Journey to India” used in many British schools as a curriculum resource. Clive retired from working full time in education in 2012.

She has a life-long career as an artist-photographer with forays into the world of art, pop and advertising and work in major UK collections.

Our final event of 2015 and just a week before Christmas, the evening will end with extra time for informal chat and festive refreshments.
