(Re)Production: Parenthood and the art world

A Symposium. A commission. An exhibition.

Over the month of May, invited speakers will give a talk each week discussing how artists parents/carer’s can balance and sustain their professional and personal creativity and the demands of a family. The symposium seeks to open a dialogue that broadens the definition of ‘artist-led’ and explores cross-pollinisation between the ‘artist-led’ organisations and arts institutions in the context of practitioners who are also parents.

Themes and subjects covered in the symposium will include:

  • What are the systems that we need to alter symbolically and structurally to normalise and empower parents who are also artists?
  • What support systems are artists already using? What best practices could be shared with other artists or art institutions?
  • How do you negotiate self-care and down time as part of the balancing act between parenthood and practice?

In addition to the talks there is a zine commission and exhibition call-out, for more information please visit www.andreaallan.co.uk
