SAFEWORD brings together four independent artists who focus on exploring body image, sex and gender, nature and art media and materials in different contexts. Under diversified exploration, fantastic chemical reactions are generated.

Shenying Fan is a female artist whose work blends tranquility and terror, melding beautiful fantasy with reality. She uses Hyper-femininity as a tool to explore gender issues through poetic, romantic, and lyrical expression, delving into themes related to women’s pleasure and rights in contemporary society.

Rebeka Vaino’s current work is a diverse material exploration of the connection between the bodily and nature. Her approach to working is process based, moving fluidly between painting and installation, often drawing from Estonian mythology and pagan traditions, as well as animals and kink culture.

Yufeng’s current research and practice focus on the exploration of body image and culture under the power relations in different spaces and fields(toilet, bathroom, bedroom, ecology system, etc), especially the symbols of different queer contexts. He uses different materials and mediums, such as installation, moving images, and painting.

Zhang Qiuxia primarily uses materials such as fabric, oil paint, acrylic, and oil pastel to explore the essence of painting itself. With a female perspective, she investigates the subtle connections between the inner and outer worlds in her artwork, while reflecting on the diverse possibilities and limitations of the medium.

Together they welcome you to their exhibition SAFEWORD, a play on the name of the location, Safehouse, where the visitors are asked to proceed with caution but still enter the artists innermost private thoughts and explorations.
