I am a contemporary artist based in the South West, UK. I mainly work with video, sculpture and installations. The resonating intersubjective experiences which face us in life have always been my starting point. I am interested in dichotomous relationships, be it personal and public, life and death, memory and forgetting, interior and exterior, human presence and absence. My recent body of work responded to the loss of my house, through unexpected eviction. Moving 70 miles from the town in which I grew up, at the same time as my mother dying, created a profound sentimentality of displacement. It was this close experience of death which forced me to face the one true certainty at an unsettled period in my life. I created the work Grief as a response to this. The piece is a ‘living’ installation and the conditions of which is it subjected heightens one’s awareness of its fate. During the show the piece shall evolve – different at the end of the exhibition to what it was at the start. Alongside the main piece will be other works which also explore the issues of death as a critique of life. www.rebecca-harris.co.uk
