Table Reads, hosted by artists Freya Dooley and Cinzia Mutigli, is an informal reading and discussion event exploring overlaps in experimental writing, literature, and visual art.

Artists Rhiannon Lowe and Samuel Hasler will join Freya and Cinzia in sharing a short text in progress which will be read aloud by someone else, giving each practitioner the opportunity to hear their work in other voices. The readings will be followed by an over-the-table discussion with the group, which encourages the exchange of ideas, supportive critique and the possibility for new connections and collaborations to begin.

Participants are also invited to bring a very short text to share with the group on the day if you’d like to*. You may be looking for fresh perspectives on your work, or to address a specific question in a supportive atmosphere. *(Due to time limits, please bring something that is 5 mins or less long when read aloud).

Event 2-4pm. The audience for this event is limited to 10 people and so booking is essential. To book your free place please email [email protected]. Refreshments will be provided.

Table Reads is a roaming project by Freya Dooley and Cinzia Mutigli. This first iteration at Oriel Davies accompanies Freya Dooley’s Litmus Commission, ‘Speakable Things’, which is open until the 11th April. To learn more about ‘Speakable Things’ please visit www.orieldavies.org/litmus.

Collaborative Artist Biography

Since 2013, Freya Dooley and Cinzia Mutigli’s collaborative practice has encompassed performance, broadcast and publication works. Using pop culture references and auto / biographical fictions, they construct characters and embellish themselves. Their work merges humour, gossip, failed aspirations, alter – egos and cultural criticism. Conversation and written communication is central to the way they create and produce their work: they talk with, over and alongside each other.

Their recent research mingles the stolen, disputed and reclaimed narratives of public figures in the company of our real or imagined selves. Previous projects include On Record, an exhibition and events programme for artist working with sound and performance, commissioned by Cardiff Contemporary 2014. They have recently performed at g39, Cardiff, Printhaus, Cardiff, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, and Off the Page, as part of Experimentica, Chapter, Cardiff.
