The Film and Media courses at Sheffield Institute of Art and Design are delighted to host: TRANSFIXED MOTION | THE TRANSITORY STILL In the closing of his contribution to the collection of essays, ‘Stillness and Time: Photography and the Moving Image’, David Campany postulates…‘Photography has all but given up the ‘decisive moment’ in order to explore what a moment is; video art has all but given up movement, the better to think what movement is.………….But must the speedy always be sacrificed in all this? Need slowness be the only way? At this key point in the histories of art and media, I think it is a question worth posing. And a pose worth questioning’.–Posing, Acting, Photography. This exhibition, curated by Esther Johnson and David Williams, brings together a diverse group of 22 UK-based artists whose work reflects the above quote and who incorporate moving image, photography and/or sound into their practice. You are cordially invited to the private view of this exhibition. On Thursday 2nd April at 6.00-9.00pm At The Sheffield Institute of Art and Design Gallery, Furnival Building
