Unnatural Worlds showcases the work of contemporary artists Emma Williams and Akiko Usami and provides an insight into their explorations through drawing.Williams and Usami first met while studying painting at the Royal College of Art where their common interests led to a trip to the west coast of the US, taking in the Arizona desert, Grand Canyon and numerous towns, cities and national parks along the way. Memories and experiences of shared or individual journeys – the resonance of places they have visited – continue to inform their current work. For both artists, the sensations, memories and traces of their journeys are as important as the geography, landscape and visual elements of specific locations.
