Visual Diaries brings together three artists. Holly Drewett’s prints explore themes of journey, landscape, architecture and sense of place. Influenced by India and Nepal, the work celebrates the rich culture and colour that is so prominent in these countries. At the heart of this work is printmaking; intrigued by both traditional and digital techniques the processes are allowed to overlap and the results are used to develop the work. Joanne Hummel-Newell collects printed and handwritten ephemera and this is an important part of her creative process. She gathers things, scraps, shopping lists, tickets found on the street, at a train station, pockets, all of a particular appearance-discoloured, loved, lost, stained, beautiful and damaged. All of which become part of Joanne’s drawing cuttings and collage materials.Craig Shuttlewood is interested in experimenting with surface and layers, and his work has gradually transformed into a visual diary. Colourful paintings on canvas, found wood and panel express quirky illustrative elements and words based on the beauty of everyday observations and stories. Tall buildings, trees, cup cakes, angels and birds all appear along with snippets of found printed materials to make these unique pieces.
