A two month exhibition of work created by emerging sculptor Christine Lobb has been opened at the Through the Looking Glass exhibition space in the Rose Yard, Maidstone, Kent. Wasp in a Wig follows a month long residency, supported by Maidstone Borough Council Arts Development which enabled the artist to create new drawings and conceive ideas for the exhibition. These ideas will be realised as a series of evolving, site-specific sculptures installed within the Through the Looking Glass exhibition space. Amongst the work that will be exhibited in Maidstone will be a woven sausage skin net suspended in air by helium balloons. Over the course of its display the net will dry out and harden in an undetermined form, illustrating Christine’s interest the role gravity has to play within sculpture. Other works that will feature in the exhibition include drawings executed with magnets and iron filings and sculptures created by turning egg shells inside out.
