Ruth McLees. Beginning at her studio, an old sail warehouse in Cardiff Bay, Ruth has journeyed along the paths of the old Docks waterways to find inspiration for her new work.

Travelling these routes with the purpose of viewing and gathering visual information, Ruth spent time exploring and talking to people she met along the way: the aim a series of paintings to record each trip whilst keeping an eye on the memory and multicultural landscape of the area.

With a focus on the difficult relationship between the old Docks and new Cardiff Bay, Ruth has met and painted long-time residents of Butetown alongside new incomers. In conversation their sense of identity, place and often alienation within the redeveloping environment has come across, whilst providing a wealth of oral history and opinion.

This exhibition draws together visual snapshots from each journey painted en route on the back of postcards, with portraits of the many
