Amber Cowan
Made in the USA, Philadelphia, PA, 2014.
Found American pressed milk glass, broken, flameworked, hotworked, fused, sandblasted; silicone, wood, paint, metal.

“A pair of lambs, a lion, a double-humped camel, and a swan – all are hidden within the dense layers that form this sculpture. Made from mass produced Vintage American pressed glass that has been melted and reformed by Amber Cowan. The original objects – including candy dishes, perfume bottles and snack sets made between the 1940’s and the 1980’s – are picked up by Cowan at thrift shops, flea markets, and on eBay. This inexpensive glass has been all but forgotten in contemporary culture, whose interests are vastly different from those of the era that the original glass represents.”
