Cymbidium Exotica

Laura Frances, ‘Cymbidium Exotica’, Glass, Steel, Copper, Neon.. The delicate nature of this orchid stem belies it’s true size; with the largest flower head spanning 50cm, the entire stem extends to 1.5 metres in length with a spread of over 1 metre. Each flower is illuminated with soft neon, fashioned to emulate the orchid’s stamen and pistil. The central lip petals are cast in lead crystal with the subtle infusions of pink achieved using the pate de verre method. The copper stems and fine verdigris leaves suspend the spray from a patina copper bark which contains the neon transformers.
