Patrick Hurst
Patrick explores techniques to transform raw material, scrap or cheap mediums into refined objects. To produce work that makes a moment of contemplation between the artwork and the viewer. Where they can find a sense of calm while appreciating an object for its formal qualities, before exploring the concept of its design.
Hurst has extensive experience working with resistant materials; he intimately understand their characteristics and how best to exploit them. He believes that with poor execution a great concept can be missed. For him, the manufacture of an artwork is as important as the final outcome.
Industrial production is now part and parcel with the way Patrick works. Hurst uses professional software in the design of the various areas of his practice; from paintings and digital prints to sculpture. He develops concepts directly with engineers and industry leading manufacturers to realise his ideas.
He started his practice in 2013 and since then has cultivated an impressive exhibition and commission history, throughout the UK and Europe. Most recently being featured in group shows with Kristian Day at the Saatchi gallery and NordArt at the Künstwerk Carlshütte in Germany, as well as a long list of commissions for private collectors.
