The London Group and Ben Uri collaborated on two exhibitions to celebrate the Group’s centennial anniversary. Holding a contemporary show at The Cello Factory with current members entitled +100: The London Group Today, the show offering a response to Ben Uri’s Uproar!

The work in +100 followed an artistic legacy. London Group members always sought to promote their members individuality, and +100 was no exception to this tradition. The work touched upon some of the biggest movements in art, offering more than a contemporary reflection but current members’ reinterpretation of the past.

Spanning through The London Group’s controversial beginnings and their first fifty years, Uproar!, marks the group’s continued challenge to expectations. Ben Uri took the name ‘uproar’ from the controversy surrounding the work of the London Group’s third show, The Creation of Eve. In containing some of the most examined work of the period Uproar! featured work within and outside their own collection. They defied tradition by pushing the art establishment just as far as the Group’s uproarious third show.

The two exhibitions celebrated one-hundred years of The London Group’s past and present members. Uproar! and +100 showed a genesis of human creativity. The artwork in these shows will continue to live beyond the last century because it is art that truly is timeless.
