“The works of six British painters, including the exhibition’s curators, Lucy Cox and Freya Purdue, are united in Colour: A Kind of Bliss.”

– Melissa Emerson, M&F magazine, May 2017.

Artists: Julian Brown, Lucy Cox, Jeff Dellow, David Manley, Andy Parkinson and Freya Purdue

Discussion date and time: Friday 9 June 3.00pm – 5.00pm

“Colour is a kind of bliss … like a closing eyelid … a tiny fainting spell.”

– Roland Barthes

Join the curators of Colour: A Kind of Bliss, Lucy Cox and Freya Purdue, in conversation with exhibiting artists including Jeff Dellow and David Manley.

The discussion will focus on the eclectic nature of colour; its mysteries, endless possibilities and importance for painters today.

David Batchelor (2014, p.13) believes our current relationship with colour is a paradox; most of us are both drawn to and repelled by it, experiencing ‘strong feelings of attraction and repulsion … love and hate …’

Perhaps these simultaneous experiences are a kind of bliss; providing something irresistible in colour that is unexplained, complex and undeniably sensuous.

“An impressive show with integrity, clarity and substance.” – Caroline Todd.

“A must see for colour lovers or the colour curious…” – Review by Natasha Hall, ArtTop10.
