I visited LabCraft: Digital Adventures in Contemporary Craft at Leamington Spa Museum and Art Gallery yesterday and was really impressed. The Temporary exhibition space has, over the last year, had some shows which have been really intresting in relation to my practice… This show continued that trend (and I plan on writing a review for Interface soon). Any readers of my Degrees Unedited blog over the past year or so will be aware that I’ve been wanting higher levels of production in my sculptural pieces, high levels of production are excatly what this show had in abdunance. All the work was Laser Cut, CNC’d, Water Jet Cut or used various other digital techniques and everything looked so good. I’ve decided to find a Lab I could work with (emails to BIAD as a starting point). This might take a while but I’m dertermind to have a go!
Still not been able to work on the 200x SimCard but that might be a good thing as I’m going to be rethinking how its going to be produced after seeing LabCraft. I’ve strated work on the text to go alongside We’ve Been Re-distrubuted but haven’t done anything on the videos for it. I’ve also started looking around for a printers to work with for this project and will post more about all this in the coming week.
I also recieved the Bob and Roberta Smith book I mentioned in a previous post and will be trying to organise a meeting with Bernard from the Cardell Collection this week…
I have also Started thinking about some new works but this is only at very early stages… One is concerned with FireWalls which I will be proposing as a project for B-Side Multi-Media Festival 2012 and the other is a physical manifestation of Twitter and architecturally based on the Aviary’s which we’re popular in the early 1900’s. Still alot of things to do for these projects though.
