Mulvey (2006, p.11) “human fascinations: boundary between life and death”

This piece is about one of the hero’s who has died. As he tries to defend the town. One of the witches kills him with a sword, just as he starts frighting her. He dies before the other hero’s can help him. The evil witch is then taken down by Robert Gold. Lacey runs to our hero. Our other hero’s are distraught by what has happened. Robert Gold and Lacey join them, even those they have saved the town, there is great grief as there have lost a close friend.

I have been looking at Damien Hirst’s work on the death of animals, as I have now expressed in my story how the hero has died, looking at ways to show the grief his friends are going through. Lisa S. Wainwright (2014, p.1) “His displays of animals in formaldehyde were seen as reflections on mortality and the human unwillingness to confront it”. Hirst’s work is about how we deal with death. How as humans we have to cope with it, even though we don’t want to. In my story the characters will find a way to cope with what has happened and move on, with their lives. This drawing is the end of the story, as I am not drawing the pictures in order, this helps me as it gives me more ideas for leading up to this point, if I do the final fight first.

The image is linear, as I feel you get in to it very quickly. I had to think about how to draw the scene, and the best way to do that. The material is charcoal and it is monochrome. Micklewright reports that “A drawing is an accumulation of many separate observations;” (2005, p.126). The image is harmony colour range, as none of the colours do not go well together.

I felt that they needed to be more people in the drawing, such as the town’s people. As they are shocked to see what has happened to their friend. It may have worked better if I have had made the evil watch bigger, to show how the town people are scared of her and to show the strength of her power. Even through she is defeated. They still  have lost a close friend and need to come to terms with what has happened. I felt that you can see their pain and unrest quite well on their faces. The witch is smiling, I drew her face like that so the viewer would think that this is not over yet and she is going to come back.

The image is drawing like it is from a comic, the people look like they are from a story for children. The man who has died looks like he is just sleeping and not dead. As his eyes look like they are open. The blood around him does not look real, there should be a lot more blood for a wound like this. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm (1982, p.367) “This is a den of murderers. You think you’re a bride soon to be wedded, but its death you’re going  to wed.” In the Grimm’s tale The Robber Bridegroom a young women thinks she is been taken away to be married but she is really going to be murdered by a group of psychopaths. This fits in to my story as the man is murdered, while protecting his family and friends. This is why I am looking at the Grimm’s tale: The Robber Bridegroom.
