I have been commissioned by FrancisKnight Art Consultants to create an interpretation document which provides a creative contextual narrative to support and enhance the Chatham Waterfront Development in Chatham, Kent. This work may also include the concept development of public artworks embedded into the landscape. The project is being driven by Medway Development Company, with a large consortium team of architects and landscape specialists including HTA, Guy Holloway Architects, Lyall Bills and Young & CF Moller Architects.

This work is an extension of the Chatham Placemaking Project I delivered with FrancisKnight for Medway Council. This was a public realm regeneration and exploration of a pedestrian route from the Station to the Waterfront. Much of the research and contextual work developed for this project shares ground with the Waterfront Project.

29th June to Sunday 4th July – ‘Camera Eats First’ – an exhibition of images created by 14 young people in Ramsgate – a project delivered by the brilliant PMH Ramsgate. These images were then handed over to me as part of the the iconography for an installation & interpretation based on the work of our participating young people, adding layers of imagery and finally printing on cloth in collaboration with Shelly Goldsmith Reader in Textiles at UCA Rochester. The work was presented as a banqueting table laid out with imaginary tableware & food. None of this is actually real – it is all an illusion – a metaphor for food consumption, for gathering to eat in the time of Covid lockdowns, over indulgence, food advertising and our penchant for taking photos of our food before eating. It is also a commentary on our local region of East Kent where food poverty is very much a part of the community’s experience.
