We begin building the degree show on Monday – and our deadline is Friday to have everything in. I have finished my work for the show now!! So all that needs to be done is enterprise and the Sketchbook.

After two weeks away from my studio I have come back with clear ideas on how to fix my paintings and continue with new ones.

I have two which I intend to have in my final show which are of the dimensions 5’6 x 6′. I am going to begin a third next week so just looking at what to paint.

I keep looking back to iconic depictions of motherhood (Madonna and Child) and I want to make my work challenge these icons.

Contemporary images of mothers need not be iconic cannons of perfection, but can tell truths.

I will paint ‘mother’ not as an icon but as a person sacrificing part of her life to give to another.

This is how one of my final paintings are coming. I can’t wait to have it finished. The colours are going to be yellows, blues and red and also some white.

I’ve been thinking about Francis Bacon and also Kitaj who use planes of colours for some inspiration.

See what happens :)

I’ve been thinking about what to paint on the big canvases.

Looking back to my original themes of Motherhood and heritage, also links with the Virgin Mary, I painted a simple portrait of a woman and a baby. White background, limited palate.

Quite confused on what to do with my final show now.

Our degree show work hand in is 18th May, so there is around two months to get everything together.

My paintings are slowly getting there now. I have another exhibition lined up next week so will be putting in three of the paintings I did at the end of 2011. The show is at Elysium Studios in Cradock St, Swansea.

I have begun/continued two paintings in particular. I would like the tension in them to be appropriate. Whereas in some of my work, parts look more illustrative than fine art I want to get the balance between drawing and painting right.

Under certain advise I have made up twin canvases that are 5’6 x 6′.

I;m excited about painting them, i have some ideas in mind. The reasoning for the scale is that when the viewer looks into them and sees the figures, they can relate to the narrative on a subconscious/human level as the figures are life-size.
