Viewing single post of blog Collaging my ideas, experience and processes

This summer found me in a number of inspiring landscapes which I attempted to record with drawing and painting. Some were more successful than others, but how do I measure success? My attempts seemed rather traditional, whereas I had imagined I would be doing experimental expressive drawing! I hope to use my efforts to collage and re-paint to make more exciting compositions.
In September I visited an exhibition by contemporary en-plein air painter Lucy Marks – Constable’s Walks. Lucy had walked three of Constable’s routes on the South Downs near her home and recorded scenes in both watercolour and oils. It was interesting to see her large panoramic pieces – the format in which I was doing my sketches. Lucy told me that the largest watercolours she does in the studio as they would be too impractical to do in situ. Lucy Marks
