Well what could a day bring you…..

So much information on so many levels, there is an overwhelming demand to try and deal with everything …….

Sometimes you have to know when to call a halt to outside pressures, and look after yourself, its only when you know yourself, that you can carry on..

As far as being beside yourself , or being your whole self….. I have found both states to be useful where creating, or thinking about art. Some of the most interesting/imaginative works have been created when people have been in ‘altered’ states of mood….

I don’t think this human quality will change. I also think that my practice has developed as a result of both qualities………

Listen to some good music, have a relaxing bath, and try and sort your mind out after all the bulls**t.

Some days are sent to test you, and i have just had one…. Anyhoo the best result of this trying day is that it has inspired some more creative thoughts, so there can be good out of bad …

I have a lot of good ideas for future projects/works…. some inspired by creative musings, and some inspired by situations thrust upon you…

Whatever.. good ideas/creative inspirations…. can come from anywhere and surprise you………

It is not always what you expect, that will lead anyone to a new unforeseen horizon, heres to ‘chance’ and its outcomes.

It just goes to show how much it helps to look back on things sometimes..

Looking back into the blog posts i have written is a valuable tool for understanding how much things can develop and change, from a start, where i was not sure where to start, and was fairly stilted in comment or what to include.. to my posts of recent which are more free flowing .

It is a new arena and i have enjoyed embracing the connection which this A-N network has presented, i have learnt to be more relaxed about digital networking ( which before had been an unknown ground to me ) and i have received comments back from others which makes it feel like a ‘live situation’ not just  a notebook, or journal.

In all, what seemed to be an interesting idea, and a new thing to be explored, has become ‘alive’ and vibrant. There is so much to be gained by linking with those of fellow mind, and communicating  information, ideas, and current events that may be of interest…….

In all, i can say that joining the A-N network has far exceeded my expectations, and opened my mind a great deal to future possibilities, a result i never expected…… and i am so glad of that !

Keep on blogging in the free world eh, good wishes to all……….

The fighting history ” in art has changed massively over time. How we have portrayed conflict using art has moved from grandiose battle scenes and portrayal of conflicts leaders ( quite often in time consuming oil paint ) to a more ambiguous form of approach as more modern times have come to pass.

Here i will provide examples… from incredibly detailed and time consuming, oil  painting in its traditional form..                                                                                                The Death of Major Pierson   c1781-1783  John Singleton Copley   oil on canvas.

To a more modern approach, in an abstract form, painted 179 years later, ( i.e. more recently time wise )…… How times and styles have changed.! But the sentiment behind them is the same in some ways, as well as here, in the two examples i chose to demonstrate the subject, the medium is the same too, as is its objective, the interpretation and documentation of the same subject.. WAR !                                                                             The Battle of Hastings   c1961-1962  Allen Jones   oil on canvas.

Works from Stanley Spencer, Richard Hamilton, Benjamin West and Richard Deller chart/document the change in time……..

This exhibition is on at the Tate Britain, London, SW1, UK until the     13th of September.

Well there are many people who contribute to placing the little pieces of art that you see when you ‘Google ‘ something.. on Googles home page.. And heres the story behind it all..

The Google doodle was first created in 1998, when the Google founders Larry Page and Sergei Brin went to the ‘Burning Man Festival’, and scribbled a stick figure into the Google logo as a type of ‘ out of office ‘ communication. It has become since then, an institution of the Google home page.                                                                For example, the ( moving, i.e. animated ) Loch Ness monster , doodle, created to celebrate the 81 years since the ‘famous’ photograph of the Loch Ness monster ( real or faked ? the viewer can choose their opinion ) was just one of the doodles, which sometimes reflect current events, famous people, or are just for fun..                  The artist who created the ‘Nessie’ doodle is Matthew Cruickshank and he is one of a team of only ten people who create them. In a statement he says “The fact that it’s a doodle means it’s fun and shouldn’t be taken too seriously”  Stretching the definition of doodle somewhat.. it actually takes the teams members 6 weeks to create a new doodle, from deciding on the concept to launching it online, and can be planned up to 6 or 8 months in advance.. This goes to show that there is more to the concept of a ‘doodle’ than you would sometimes think……..
