New Work: http://againstthelightning.com

Though I must put my own ideas and impulses on the back burner whilst I am being offered genuine money for commission.

I can’t help myself though.

I spent the day today driving down south to first deliver a painting to Fairfields Art Centre in Basingstoke for their September NEW CONTEMPORARIES show and then on to Winchester to pick up two pieces from my Degree Show.

I am now hungry and tired and I should probably spend the evening socialising or making work, but the seven hour trip was WORTH it. If only because the director of the Art Centre said that he liked my piece because it was painting about painting as opposed to a different message taking advantage of an easily accessible. As an avid reader of Turps Banana and a great admirer of Painter’s painters-this swift but uplifting conversation gave me enough self confidence for the next few days.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS?/GET LOST

A stressful indefinable boundary between social opportunity for discussion and private place for intellectual process.

The Studio space-in whatever form it manifests itself-can be a source of rising blood pressure.

“SKIN LIKE WET LEATHER”

For anyone who wants to be physically transported back to the novel pre 20th century worl that H.G.Wells describes in War of The Worlds-I strongly suggest a 2.5hr bike ride into the Fenland countryside. With just enough early morning glow from the rising sun, and a handful of early fallen leaves, I half expected a slithering tentacle to reach up from an irrigation ditch and pick me off my bike; the only event to disrupt another wise desolate landscape.
