A five day absence…another busy week down!

I started the week off by finishing five books and ruined my index finger in the process. On Tuesday I cried three times and had a panic attack but eventually, with the help of two amazing friends I edited my video and got it on DVDs…ready to practice with it in my degree show space! Unfortunately there is an exhibition in there already so I’ll have to wait a little bit!

I went to London and managed to see 8 shows, had a day of working (to make money, not art) in the cinema on Thursday, and a trip to Sheffield to see some of the shows in the Art Festival.

I’m about to book tickets to Glasgow to check out their international art festival next week too. I feel like a sponge right now….but I’m starting to behave the way I want to as an artist. Mentally preparing myself for “the end”.

Unbelievably, I don’t know how to make a DVD! I thought I should save my files as “mov” files but that didn’t seem to work!It seems like it should be such a simple and obvious process but I’m stumped! Hopefully some help will sort that out tomorrow.

Today I will buy a stack of acetate and pierce it all so that I can finish one series of books.

I will also start up a conversation with Iris Priest.

In 1968 the artist and writer jack Burnham prophesised that “A systems aesthetic will become the dominant approach to a maze of socio-technical conditions rooted only in the present.”

“Contemporary media (television, film, magazines, billboards, the Internet) are concerned not just with relaying information or stories but with interpreting our most private selves for us, making us approach each other and the world through the lens of these media images.

They keep us at one step removed from the reality of our bodies or of the world around us.”

I’m trying to read Baudrillard’s Simulacra and Simulations. Emphasis on the trying.
