three women, three countries, three labouring intense, concentrated and meditative durational works. Helena Hamilton (NI), Maria Dos Milagres (PT) and Stephanie Hurst (USA), each transfixed in solitary repetition committed to their actions.
These bodies opened into (your bodies into) our space and theirs.
Helena Hamilton (NI), blindfolded, slowly twisted black writings making the first marks on and as ]performance s p a c e [ walls. Hamilton worked from start to end; head cocked thoughts backwards out through beaked wrist. Her brush poised, inquisitive, quivering, yet defiant (only to be ceased by tomato bloodied fingers of Hugh O’Donnell acknowledging the end on her shoulder blades).
Hamilton’s fingers spun slow chaotically-angular webs across our walls, darning actions and unraveling minds.
In unknown unison, partitioned by prefab and a two-way security mirror, Stephanie Hurst pecked pubic hairs.
Nails biting into metal tweezing coarse and fragile hair. Soft and proud, these beaky birds prodding at our/their thoughts and Hurst’s thighs. Clothed in Ariel-soft-soft-white-cotton-vagina-fragile-splitting-hairs she is (not); Hurst’s hairs are strong and waxing, coiling and reeling and wrestling. The glint in her eye shines sharper than the tweezer’s point.
Wax On – Wax Off.
The Artists silently command the s p a c e, p l a c e d between each other and in time.
Brush-shakes, tweezer-flesh, hot-waxed hands.
Not stripping bare but burning layers, Milagres constructs on/off/of flesh over time. Tiptoed beads of wax progressively ellipse the floor. Hollow concrete gray, slabs. She constructs the knowledge of breeze blocked, filled with the volume of her steps and thus weight in our bellies. This cold and bare meeting reverbing medieval industrial velvet. And we are continuasly caught in its continuity. This action rolled in and out of in soft time (and then Victoria Gray).

I am an interdisciplinary artist, working across performance & time-based media, writing, curating & design. These seemingly disparate areas of my practice are connected through a fascination of making & creating spaces, demolition & undoing of structures, both psychologically, socially & physically. I am interested in the synthesis and friction between gender constructs, capitalist power structures, ecology & permaculture. My practice explores the interconnections of these through a fiercely political body & heart, rooted in the land and deep listening to people & communities. Since 2022 I have been collaborating with Isabel Pina Ferreira as 'Fiorino & Ferriera'. Together we make sculpture & installation works rooted in site specificity & peoples relation to the land. We are interested in working with natural & found materials, collective making and community action. Outside of our collaborative & independent arts practices we Co-Direct ‘Cosmic-Constructions’ a sustainable building company, that also provides community workshops & learning experiences.
