I'm starting this in the middle, not the beginning – mainly because I hadn't thought of blogging until I was well into the project. The piece is quite small – 31 stitches and 32 rows (meant to be 31 but I made a mistake on the first day), about 15cm x 9cm. Originally I was just going to photograph it each day, but it's become more interesting as the process goes on. Some things I expected – the yarn has got more and more crinkled and split, and more difficult to work with; some I didn't (it hasn't broken, but it has stretched enormously, so the trailing end, which was about 5 cm long, is now long enough to knit several more rows). What's really interesting me is that the finished knitted piece seems to be getting more and more of its own life – from being flat to begin with it started to get quite sculptural, and now it's almost animal-like – and different each day when I've finished knitting it.
