Bernadette McHugh Adventures in Birkenhead Park

My book is about personal memories in Birkenhead Park. I like the idea of escaping into a large garden to explore and unfold happiness around me.

Carolyn Beefelt Robotic Journey

My book art project is an imaginary situation where a robot experiences new places and makes new friends in the place of myself.

Yvonne Davis Reflections

This visual book shows images of West Kirby Marine Lake. The title has a double meaning as this is a place I go to when I am feeling troubled and need to reflect on events in my life. The water has a wonderful soothing effect and the reflections on the water are captivating.

Melinda Ostraff Untitled

Any city I go to, I look for and collect the plants from that location. These book pages document the street name where I found a specific plant, and an image of the plant itself. I collected plants from both the Liverpool and the Wirral side of the River Mersey.

Jakub Kreft Layered Reality

My book is about sliced perception of reality in a solid/concrete surrounding.

Kaleb Ostraff Mersey River

The images in my book are taken from a blown up map of the Mersey river. The Mersey river has been central in the development of the Liverpool area. It enabled Liverpool to grow into a large port city. As the river ebbs and flows with the tide it feels like the heart beat of the area. Without this river the surrounding areas would not have progressed like they have.

Lottie Millington Look Out

The fabric lined screen print is based on the Mersey’s waterfront from both sides of the coast. Each side looks out at each other sharing a connection of a single view.

Alexis Fryer Above

My book is a reflection on my visit to the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool. I was impressed by it’s grandeur and beauty. I was interested in both the size and precision of the architecture and the intricacy of the decoration found in each part of the building.

Keala Kau Textures

This book is a compilation of textures that I collected while getting to know Liverpool and its surrounding areas, over the first couple days of our stay here.

Ron Linn Crossed Paths

My project was a result of my experiments in alternative methods of mapping a location. Each page on its own documents a journey taken, with an origin and a destination, connected by a single thread. Viewed together, however, these journeys combine to make a web which symbolically represents the entirety of my wanderings around the environs of Liverpool.

Les Rowe New Brighton Wedge Book

Shams Khan Target

This is a combination of memories and events that have taken place over the years within my personal experience. For you, it is a puzzle that you have to work out.

Josh Wilson Witness Anti-social Behaviour

This book is an observation on the spaces we share both physically and socially, specifically exploring the James Street train station. I am interested in the fact that the train station is often the place we are physically closest with others, yet it is the generally a place we are most distant socially.

Sarah Romano No Return

This book is about the exciting prospect of my first house that I have just bought with my partner, and coming to terms with the decision to stay in Liverpool after living here for 18 years.

Here is a selection of the finished books with statements from the artists to explain their intentions:

Sunny Taylor Shared Ground

This book is an opportunity for the viewer to imagine what might occur if many of the beautiful spaces and structures within Liverpool and Wirral literally shared the same ground. The fragmented and layering images create a sort of portrait of this place, what I guess will be reminiscent of the visual memories I will take home with me after my short visit here.

Anna Clark Shelter

I find myself drawn to Wirral’s coast, particularly the Victorian promenades with their glorious seascapes. My book is a moment in the life of one of the remaining shelters where people come and go, walking their dogs, staring out to sea and watching the world go by. I have combined different layers, some transparent, some translucent to give an idea of the range of activities and perspectives in and around the shelter.

Fiona Philipps Untitled

My book represents my life experiences and memories of St Bridget’s School and Church. It also looks at the generations past and present that have passed through the school.

Rachel Perry Adventure Playground

As a child I loved to have adventures and make up stories. I have explored my childhood through the colours and images of this book.

Maggie Golightly Finding Answers

My book is about understanding – figuring out certain aspects of my own life while being in a new city and environment.
