‘SOAP FACTORY MACHINE’ 2013

Dead chuffed. Well today has been very tiring, moving these things is starting to take there toll as I’m beginning to ache, but it shows me that I’m still alive, I did a photo shoot today inside a building that I thought would help set an atmosphere with my sculptures, and my hard work has paid off. I did a film of the piece in situ but I’m going to put that on tomorrow, as its getting late and I haven’t rested yet. Today has rewarded me for the months of hard work.

The ‘colossal masking arm’. Today I scared myself by making a sculpture that miniaturised its surroundings and made its predecessor ‘masking arms’ look like puppies. The height and scale has made some thing very intimidating, making you approach it with caution and respect, like a mine that hasn’t gone off, I have utter confidence it my ability to weld, but as this is the largest thing I have done in metal I have to respect it. With this intimidating effect I think I have almost reached the essence of the soap factory, a machine of terror, a device of change.

Scavenging + going to see my prints. Well today wasn’t about making it was about getting more material to make more stuff with. I didn’t expect to be running out of material so fast as i’ve been collecting metal and other things for a while now, for 2 years, just in case I needed them, like a hoarder, which is a good thing as it has saved me a lot of money in the long run. Getting ready to make another ‘masking arm’ tomorrow and also making a furnace to melt some aluminium to make a soap mask.
