It feels like I have made a start today. Also the space that I will be exhibiting in degree show it will become available tomorrow. I bought quite a lot of fabrics today and started some sewing. I will have two helpers from 1st and 2nd year so hopefully I will be able to do all I have in mind.

At the end I have decided to stick to sewing to do the sculptures. I’m comfortable with this medium, I don’t wan to risk it. I prefer not to use wet materials for now. I’m going to be using cardboard to make asymmetrical shapes, then sewing fabric using the same patterns to fit into the shapes. I want to create an installation of objects with different sizes, colours and textures. I’m aiming to create larger shapes than usual, perhaps a pile of objects, over head height, with the feeling that is almost all going to fall down. Quite chaotic but in harmony too. Visually attractive, like a festival of pattern, colour. I will also use acrylic plastic to do some of the shapes. I might also print images onto the acrylics, not sure what images yet.

I have also finished the armature this week too. I’m not entirely sure about what is the expression of this man now. I’m working along trying to come out with ideas for this film. The video in my previous post is inspiring. I’m going to try to find two students from performing arts and see if they could help me doing the video. I would like to shoot at home, see what happens. I would like to build a mdf kind of Punch and Judy puppet theatre stage for the film. The film screen will fit in the space of the theatre.

Tomorrow I will find out if I have been shortlisted to be interviewed for the studentship award to do the MA Fine Art course, finger crossed! If I am, I will be interviewed on the 22nd April. The 24th, same month, I will be in a meeting with 3 members of the staff, and a postgraduate student. Between all of us, we will be trying to come out with some new guidelines to protect students when exhibiting works that contains explicit (to some) images or content.
