Following on from research over the summer into trancendental phenomenology and intentionality I have begun to piece thoughts together for the research report. Through my research I came across Nietzche talkng of “the art of putting oneself on a stage before ones self”. This concept of feeding the viewer familiarities to them selves is an interesting take on way we engage with artworks. It has lead me to consider situations I have encountered and how through the work I create I can refresh my own perceptions of them. Putting myself on a stage before myself. Considering the commonalities of selves, what you may be putting before yourself, you are also putting before many other people. Highlighting qualities of them selves and perhaps bringing new relations to these perceptions of the self. Considering this point has lead me to think about how inward focused a work can be on the self, although it may seem like a narcissistic way of creating work commonalities between one another are more than likely to arise. Opening conversations and relations in places others may not have otherwise considered.
