‘ALPHA mαle’ Tim Fowler Brings Major New Solo Exhibition To Leicester.

This July Tim Fowler will host a solo exhibition of a brand new body of work focusing on family, fatherhood and a mans role in the contemporary household.

The exhibition will consist of several paintings, some scaling over 6ft tall, depicting intimate family scenes, stolen moments alone and the adorable bond between the artists’ twin daughters. Throughout this project, which has been funded by Arts Council England, Tim has developed a more liberated style of painting creating deconstructed images by utilizing abstract marks and his signature colour palette to express candid family moments to subvert ideas of a males role within a contemporary household and in Tim’s case a female dominated home. Tim explains, “Since becoming a father the twins have obviously taken centre stage, and the dynamic between them has always fascinated me. Though they are two individuals and have their own little quirks, they are also always together and almost make up one entity. Capturing that distinct relationship between the two of them has been central to this project.”

Tim started out painting building facades then silver screen legends. He recently had a sold out exhibition at LCB Depot in Leicester that saw him create 100 skull paintings live in the gallery in one week. All 100 paintings sold within 3 hours of the exhibition opening its doors. After receiving funding from Arts Council National Lottery Project Grants Tim has been able to explore this new subject matter within his work and develop his painting technique. Tim’s work is incredibly vivid, using a colour palette of extremely bright and intense hues that makes his work distinctly recognisable. Pink plays a central roll within his palette, which coincides with the themes being explored within his latest body of work.

The title ALPHA male is a purposeful one. A seemingly negative label, which conjures images of toxic masculinity, is used ironically to poke fun at those outdated ideas of what it means to be male and what roles men are expected to play. It intends to challenge people’s preconceptions of what an alpha male is and does. The work within the exhibition contrasts with those archaic prejudices and challenges attitudes, showing vulnerabilities; frankness and humour, taking a satirical look at manliness and fatherhood.

Tim has been a practicing artist for over 12 years, having exhibited around the world in New York, Ibiza, Munich and London. Tim lives and works in Leicester and is hugely excited to be showing this brand new body of work in Leicester first. Tim says “to be exhibiting in my home town and giving the first look of my brand new work to a local audience who has followed and supported me from the beginning is a great thrill.” Tim also wants to expose his work and Leicester to a wider audience, he continues “I hope to attract the network I’ve built up in London and have even laid on an exclusive coach to bring them up to Leicester to see the show and to expose the amazing wealth of talent the city has to offer.” The private coach will collect guests from Leytonstone London and bring them to the Private View on the 5th July, dropping them back once the event finishes. Over recent years Tim has built up a profile as one to watch within the art world building a robust reputation as an exciting emerging artist. With solo exhibitions in London and featuring in several high-end art fairs Tim has been attracting attention from galleries, collectors and collaborators alike.

ALPHA male Private view will be held on Friday 5th of July at Studioname 2 Brougham Street, Leicester LE1 2BA. All are welcome with complimentary refreshments available. The exhibition continues 7h – 21st July. Tim will also be painting live within the gallery on the 13/14th July.
