KATE COCHRANE 2017 ARTIST’S STATEMENT As a painter Kate transforms what she sees into a mosaic of shapes and colour, considering hue, tone and composition. Local Somerset landscapes, visits to Tasmania, Wales, and the Borders have provided a wealth of images. Kate enjoys the play of ground and fore ground, texture, the shapes and spaces between elements, all resulting in a rich tapestry of contrast and colour. Her new series of current work includes derelict castles and abbeys starting with Laugherne Castle. Kate gained a Diploma in Graphic Design at Canterbury College of Art followed by local courses in Fine Art and colour work. She has exhibited paintings since 1980, designed home accessories, sold through her business Pure Rooster, and occasionally been tutoring and running workshops. Kate currently tutors as a member of Art Profile doing art Demos. She has taken commissions plus has work in a number of private collections. Her work has shown at the Chatton Gallery, Northumberland; the Blue Ryder Gallery, Mere, Wiltshire; Avon Mill Gallery, Loddiswell, Devon; the Nolan Art Gallery, Hobart; and recently at A2 Gallery, Wells, Somerset and is currently at the First View Gallery, Stourhead.
