Joan’s work explores the associations that we have with the material evidence of our own history.
The images are often sourced from cartography and archaeology and make reference to the way we record both objects and places.
“I use a vocabulary that is a mixture of drawing systems and philosophies. Many of the lines represent my own journeys traced out on maps of various scales.”
Joan’s mixed media approach includes graphite, colour pencil, pastel and watercolour.
