This exhibition brings together a diverse range of works by artists Matthew Gould and Madi Acharya-Baskerville. The title of the exhibition, ‘Dancing with the corporeal’ reflects the physicality which underpins the practice of both artists. Their approach embraces a physical, almost carnal approach where things may come together or fall apart in an instant. For Matthew Gould the process of painting is at its best described as a dance and it is at this point when it feels primal and honest. In Madi Acharya-Baskerville’s case, the process of making sculpture is like play and the studio feels like a playground of possibilities where things can come together with relative ease or fall apart after much deliberation. Both artists are interested in this ‘falling apart’ and the possibilities that ensue creating irreverent mutations through surprising combinations.
