Alternative Arts embrace the bountiful programme of events for Black History Month this October, which this year focuses on Saluting Our Sisters and the #WEMATTER movement, by celebrating with a compelling exhibition of photographs by black British photographers.

HERE & NOW introduces us to a series of perspectives on London’s African and Caribbean culture. With interweaving narratives, these photographs are social celebrations of black history and identity by a group of exceptional contemporary photographers, selected and curated by acclaimed East End Photographer, Sarah Ainslie, and Alternative Arts Director, Maggie Pinhorn.

The exhibition includes portraits of Denzel the Goth Cowboy and empowering depictions of the black woman as mother, a tribute to Iyebiye (precious) Nigerian cuisine, a history of The Triumphant African soldiers and scenes of Unknown Fishermen in Lagos. Visitors are invited to celebrate Black History Month and enjoy this reflective exhibition of photographs by a group of established and emerging black British photographers.
