Rama was born in India and came to the UK after graduating from Calcutta University. She then studied at UCLAN, obtaining a BA honours degree in painting and printing followed by an MA in Fine Art. She currently lives and works in Bolton.
Rama draws much of her inspiration from themes of Hindu mythology and the beauty of nature. The exhibition will feature a new series of dramatic pen and ink drawings of marshland, trees and wild grasses. These will be complemented by larger colourful artworks produced using the traditional Indian technique of alpona. The technique involves marking out an intricate design with rice or beads and is used as decoration during Hindu festivals. During the course of the exhibition visitors will be able to see Rama working on one of her alpona artworks.
The exhibition has been curated by mother and daughter team Lucie and Eleanor Wilson. Lucie completed an MA degree in Fine Art at the University of Bolton in 2012 and Eleanor is currently studying History of Art at Nottingham University.
