Last year, driven by the extraordinary circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, the RSA hosted the Annual Exhibition entirely online. Over 28,000 visitors viewed the exhibition and hundreds of artworks were sold.

Following on from last year’s success, this year the exhibition is once again online and includes even more video, image-based and written content, providing fascinating insights into the practices of artists working throughout Scotland.

The RSA Annual Exhibition is the most extensive annual presentation of contemporary art and architecture in Scotland. Having been a mainstay of the Academy’s calendar since its inception 195 years ago, the Annual has evolved over the years, providing a platform for Scottish art alongside international artists, often including topical or political elements, to give an uncensored, independent voice to artists.

Co-convenors Delia Baillie RSA and Jessica Harrison RSA, assisted by Deputy Convenor Neil Gillespie RSA, are tasked with bringing together a wide array of contemporary painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and installation, alongside work by some of the country’s leading architects.

Building on its successful reintroduction in recent years, the RSA Open Exhibitions of Art and Architecture will return as an integral part of the exhibition. With works submitted from all over the world, in a vast range of mediums, and from artists and architects at all stages of their careers, the exhibition promises to be both diverse and thought-provoking.

The majority of works will be available to purchase and income raised in the Annual Exhibition directly assists artists and the not-for-profit work of the RSA. The RSA is part of the Own Art scheme, allowing you to spread the costs over 10 monthly instalments.
