What happens when silenced ‘ghosts’ from the past and present interrupt the everyday, the familiar? When the ‘unreal’ enters the realm of ‘real’ and the invisible becomes visible? Within layer upon layer of historical visual representation and today, media representation, ‘reality’ has become a shadow of a shadow of a shadow.
Spectral Paradigms is a contemporary art exhibition taking place in All Saints Church Tooting, an architecturally & historically impressive building described as “The cathedral of the South”. Taking into account the unique architecture of the building, we intend to set-up a series of installations, and art works that interact with the building. Each work will be curated to form a journey through the building, and acting somewhat as an “art trail”, guiding visitors through different spaces within the church.
The selected artworks embrace ‘new media art’ and include projection-based installation to be presented directly onto the fabric of the building as well as video, sound and light elements, photographic and multimedia art works. The Artists are invited to make site responsive works; interacting with the space, and engaging with central themes of the show.
