William Aitchison

These are the sort of tourist souvenirs that are on widely on sale. Small shells glued onto a body to produce an animal form seems to be something of a speciality here. When I say here however, I cannot say if ‘here’ means Xiamen or if it may be generalised to say South China. For all I know these may be more popular still in Hainan. This problem of generalisation and its companion problem, particularisation, are becoming quite evident to me and I will have to find an approach to creatively deal with them.
