Abstract painting Homage to Milkweed Emma Berkery
Using abstract visual language, Emma Berkery processes, repackages and reflects back to us the human lived experience. Her artworks are evocative of internal and external landscapes, while the artist’s commitment to abstraction steadfastly resists singular interpretation. Her work explores the materiality of paint through symbolic palettes and fluid organic forms, collocated with both the conscious and subconscious imposition of structure and gesture. Berkery’s interest in art history and the movements of colour field and abstract expressionism are frequently referenced within her practice. The artist has been living and working in Belfast since 2004 with much of that time being spent in the community of West Belfast. The artist is committed to high quality art experiences for all and has developed creative resources and training for teachers, artists and families. Berkery holds an MFA from Ulster University, is a frequent guest speaker in the School of Arts, English and Languages at Queens, is Associate Artist and Visual Arts Panel Chairperson with Chultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich, and frequently works as a creative consultant within the arts and education sector. www.emmaberkery.com @emmaberkeryart Belfast
