The Jerwood Foundation was established by Alan Grieve for John Jerwood in 1977. The ethos of Jerwood is to support excellence in all areas of human endeavor, principally in the arts, and education in its widest sense. The Jerwood Charitable Foundation offers visual arts prizes and awards in categories including applied arts, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and moving image. The prizes and awards create an overview of current debate and practice in these fields, with many artists overlapping disciplines and testing the boundaries of what each discipline represents. They also support and celebrate the vast talent and imagination of the artists involved.
